Hey friends,
It’s probably been a minute (a month/a year/an eternity) since we’ve caught up, so here’s a little update…
A few years ago, I finished writing a psychological thriller called The Department. After query, query, query (rejection, rejection, rejection), I found a badass agent who shopped the book around for a loooong time before it found a home with Oceanview Publishing. I’m super excited for it to come out...(wait for it….no, keep waiting…just a bit more waiting)…in February 2025. It is baffling to me how long it takes to create (distribute, market, get advanced reviews, promote, etc. etc.) a small, wonderful object that is a book. We’re so primed for the dopamine hit of the instant post, book publishing feels analog in a way that few things still are.
Word on the street (or in the book marketing channels that I am stalking like a freaking lunatic) is that I need a newsletter. But who is going to read my newsletter? I ask. My fans! I reply. What fans? You literally have no fans. And this goes on for a while. If you’re here now, it’s probably because I kindly asked you (or begged you, or subtly threatened you) to be here. However you got here, thank you. It really means so much when people take time out of their busy days to read something I’ve written.
A word about the novel, in case you devour literary thrillers…or occasionally read them…or plan to read this one, since you know I will stalk the absolute shit out of you until you do.
The Department is about a troubled college girl who goes missing and a jaded philosophy professor who becomes obsessed with her disappearance. When he discovers disturbing information that may solve her mystery, he must either confront the dark secrets of his academic department—and the unresolved trauma of his own past—or forever keep silent.
I’ll save the personal reasons behind why I wrote the book for another post. But for now, I just want to thank you again for showing up.
Much love,
Jackie
